Side effects of Vardenafil

Check with your doctor right away if you have a sudden decrease in hearing or loss of hearing with dizziness or ringing in the ears. If you already use medicine for high blood pressure (hypertension), vardenafil could make your blood pressure go too low. Call your doctor right away if you have blurred vision, confusion, dizziness, faintness, or lightheadedness when getting up suddenly from a lying or sitting position, sweating, or unusual tiredness or weakness. This medicine does not protect you against sexually transmitted diseases (including HIV or AIDS). Use protective measures and ask your doctor if you have any questions about this.

What if a patient had side effects with another ED medicine?

Do not take other medicines unless they have been discussed with your doctor. This includes prescription or nonprescription (over-the-counter [OTC]) medicines and herbal or vitamin supplements. Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention. Check with your doctor immediately if any of the following side effects occur: dizziness, faintness, or lightheadedness when getting up suddenly from a lying or sitting position fast, irregular, pounding, or racing heartbeat or pulse pain or discomfort in the arms, jaw, back, or neck puffiness or swelling of the eyelids or around the eyes, face, lips, or tongue Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention.

Other Medical Problems

These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. Check with your health care professional if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome or if you have any questions about them: Feeling of warmth and redness of the face, neck, arms, and occasionally, upper chest burning feeling in the chest or stomach burning, crawling, itching, numbness, prickling, "pins and needles", or tingling feelings feeling of constant movement of self or surroundings increased sensitivity of the eyes to sunlight sores, ulcers, or white spots on the lips or tongue or inside the mouth Other side effects not listed may also occur in some patients. If you notice any other effects, check with your healthcare professional. You may report side effects to the FDA at 1-800-FDA-1088. LEVITRA is formulated as orange, round, film-coated tablets with “BAYER” cross debossed on one side and “2.5”, “5”, “10” and “20” on the other side corresponding to 2.5 mg, 5 mg, 10 mg, and 20 mg of vardenafil, respectively. LEVITRA (vardenafil HCl) is formulated as orange, film-coated round tablets with debossed “BAYER” cross on one side and “2.5”, “5”, “10”, and “20” on the other side equivalent to 2.5 mg, 5 mg, 10 mg, and 20 mg of vardenafil, respectively.

Store at 25°C (77°F); excursions permitted to 15-30°C (59-86°F) [see USP Controlled Room Temperature].

If taking strong or moderate inhibitors of CYP3A4, the dose of LEVITRA should be adjusted as follows: Ritonavir: No more than 2.5 mg in a 72-hour period Indinavir, saquinavir, atazanavir, ketoconazole 400 mg daily, itraconazole 400 mg daily, clarithromycin: No more than 2.5 mg in a 24-hour period Ketoconazole 200 mg daily, itraconazole 200 mg daily, erythromycin: No more than 5 mg in a 24-hour period. In those patients who are stable on alpha-blocker therapy, phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitors should be initiated at the lowest recommended starting dose. Concomitant treatment should be initiated only if the patient is stable on his alpha-blocker therapy. Stepwise increase in alpha-blocker dose may be associated with further lowering of blood pressure in patients taking a phosphodiesterase (PDE5) inhibitor including vardenafil. In those patients who are stable on alpha-blocker therapy, LEVITRA should be initiated at a dose of 5 mg (2.5 mg when used concomitantly with certain CYP3A4 inhibitors). LEVITRA was administered to over 4430 men (mean age 56, range 18-89 years; 81% White, 6% Black, 2% Asian, 2% Hispanic and 9% Other) during controlled and uncontrolled clinical trials worldwide.

Over 2200 patients were treated for 6 months or longer and 880 patients were treated for at least 1 year. In placebo-controlled clinical trials, the discontinuation rate due to adverse events was 3.4% for LEVITRA compared to 1.1% for placebo.

Who should not take vardenafil?

Some illegal ("street") drugs called "poppers" also contain nitrates such as amyl nitrate and butyl nitrate. Do not use this medicine if you also use riociguat (Adempas®). If you experience a prolonged or painful erection for 4 hours or more, contact your doctor right away. This condition may require prompt medical treatment to prevent serious and permanent damage to your penis. If you have a sudden loss of vision in one or both eyes, contact your doctor right away. Placebo-controlled trials suggested a dose effect in the incidence of some adverse reactions (headache, flushing, dyspepsia, nausea, and rhinitis) over the 5 mg, 10 mg, and 20 mg doses of LEVITRA. LEVITRA film-coated tablets and vardenafil orally disintegrating tablets have been administered to over 17,000 men (mean age 54.5, range 18–89 years; 70% White, 5% Black, 13% Asian, 4% Hispanic and 8% Other) during controlled and uncontrolled clinical trials worldwide. The number of patients treated for 6 months or longer was 3357, and 1350 patients were treated for at least 1 year.

Prescription Notice

The dose may be increased to a maximum recommended dose of 20 mg or decreased to 5 mg based on efficacy and side effects. The maximum recommended dosing frequency is once levitra 20 brand per day. The maximum dose in patients with moderate hepatic impairment should not exceed 10 mg. Do not use LEVITRA in patients with severe hepatic impairment (Child-Pugh C) [see WARNINGS AND PRECAUTIONS, Use In Specific Populations and CLINICAL PHARMACOLOGY]. Do not use LEVITRA in patients on renal dialysis [see WARNINGS AND PRECAUTIONS, Use In Specific Populations and CLINICAL PHARMACOLOGY]. Concomitant use with nitrates and nitric oxide donors in any form is contraindicated [see CONTRAINDICATIONS]. The dosage of LEVITRA may require adjustment in patients receiving strong CYP3A4 inhibitors such as ketoconazole, itraconazole, ritonavir, indinavir, saquinavir, atazanavir, cobicistat, and clarithromycin as well as in other patients receiving moderate CYP3A4 inhibitors such as erythromycin [see DRUG INTERACTIONS]. In the placebo-controlled clinical trials for LEVITRA film-coated tablets and vardenafil orally disintegrating tablets, the discontinuation rate due to adverse events was 1.9% for vardenafil compared to 0.8% for placebo.
